At one spot we got out and hiked a bit up what appeared to be a pretty substantial canyon, don't think we even saw footprints. You're paddling through the last remnants of Glen Canyon (most of that magnificent canyon is under Lake Powell, at least for now), and it's absolutely gorgeous and peaceful. We met Terry (the owner) and rode up with a few other folks through Horseshoe Bend, dropped off the others, then he took our group of three back a bit as we just wanted a 3 hour paddle. It's a backhaul service, meaning they meet you at Lee's ferry and take you upriver in a powerboat to wherever you want to start, then you paddle back at your leisure. No idea why this isn't better known, but what an amazing experience! We'd planned to kayak Lake Powell into Antelope Canyon but sounded crowded, and then we heard about this alternative from Shash Dine, where we stayed. So happy with my experience, you will be happy you called them. I was surprised to see they have the cutest lodge with cozy cabins to stay, also a shop where you can find anything you might need for your journey, a gas station and a restaurant where Courtney the sweetest server made me some fresh well deserved margaritas to soak it all in. This is by far one of the the most stunning places in the USA, the canyons are majestic, the waters clean and clear, there was wild life everywhere, huge trout, ducks and even ram, simply stunning!Īfter my epic paddle I had to come to Cliff Dwellers Lodge & Restaurant to thank Windy personally for talking me into doing the journey. Once I got dropped off my epic adventure started, WOW. Upon arrival the boat captain Jim welcomed me with a smile and offered to keep an eye on me. I had brought my own equipment and needed hauling service to paddle the river, I was also hesitant to paddle 13 miles of the Colorado River by myself but after talking to Kayak Horseshoe Bend owner Wendy who took the time to explain how safe it was to paddle it by myself, I signed up for it, my only retreat I have is not doing the full river paddle from Glen Canyon Dam.
